Fingerprinting Services
What is Live Scan?
Live Scan is an
inkless fingerprinting process. The fingerprints are
electronically transmitted to the central computers at the Department
of Justice in a
matter of seconds rather than the days required previously to send hard copy
fingerprint cards through the mail.
Why use Live Scan? Beginning July 1, 2005, California law requires that all applicant fingerprint submissions must
be transmitted electronically. Live Scan digital submissions provide the
quickest way to submit and process background checks.
What type of ID can I use?
Applicants must present
a
VALID government-issued photo ID such as:
Please note that expired ID information
cannot be accepted.
Do I need to be present
in California? Yes - to be processed in California you must
be physically present in California - you must not be outside the
state. Live Scan services are not available for individuals
needing Live Scan fingerprinting for other states.
Can you assist me with
completing the Live Scan Form? No - Under California Department of Justice rules
for Live Scan facilities, we are not
allowed to assist applicants in filling out their Request for Live
Scan Service form. If your information is incomplete or you
have a question, we must refer you back to your employment or
licensing agency requesting the background check.

IDs are not acceptable.
2. U. S. passport issued by the Department of State of the
United States.
3. Foreign passport stamped by Homeland Security.

other U. S. state as long as it has a photograph, identifying

Note: A copy of the signer's identification is sometimes
required for certain documents being notarized - check with the
person who prepared your document to find out if a copy of your
identification is also required.
Can a
notary offer me advice about the content of my document?
In the majority of cases, the answer is no. Unless a notary is a
licensed attorney, a notary is prohibited from performing any
duties that may be construed as the unlawful practice of law.
Should you have any questions about the document being
notarized, we recommend you contact the originator of the
document and seek clarification.
Can a
photograph be notarized?
No - a document must contain the following requisites to be
notarized:
1. Wording or text committing the signer to the document.
2. Notarial wording (which determines the type of
notarization).
3. An original signature of the person appearing before
the notary.
